How colour is developed in our leather products

Posted by Craig Baldwin on

This is called the tanning process!

The leather that your bag is made from has been tanned.
No - not at a tanning studio!!
Tanning converts animal skin to leather.
In 1858 mineral tanning was developed. This makes chrome tanned leather thinner, softer and more flexible than vegetable tanned leather – the heavy stuff - mostly used for Equestrian products, bridles, saddles, harness and much more of your everyday leather products!
It also allows the skins to be dyed into a huge range of colours making them preferable for clothing, bags, shoes, gloves, furniture and many more items. Today 90% of skins are chrome tanned.
Your handbag/accessories will last many years, just remember to feed it every so often!
